Saturday, October 1st the FAFSA will open. All students, unless they decide to complete the FAFSA Non-participation form, must complete the FAFSA as it is now a graduation requirement for all students in the state of Illinois.
Financial aid is given on a first come, first served basis. Students that apply first may receive more scholarships than students in the exact same financial situations who apply at a later date. This is even true for college scholarships. Most colleges want to make sure their students receive as much financial aid through the FAFSA before they give out any of their institution scholarships. Some colleges even give need and/or some merit based scholarships out in order of completion of the FAFSA.
So please make sure you file your FAFSA on October 1st or soon thereafter. Go to https://studentaid.gov/.
The FAFSA questions ask for information about you (your name, date of birth, address, etc.) and about your financial situation. Depending on your circumstances (for instance, whether you’re a U.S. citizen or what tax form you used), you might need the following information or documents as you fill out the application:
Your Social Security number (it’s important that you enter it correctly on the FAFSA form!)
Your parents’ Social Security numbers if you are a dependent student
Your driver’s license number if you have one
Your Alien Registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen
Federal tax information or tax returns including IRS W-2 information, for you (and your spouse, if you are married), and for your parents if you are a dependent student:
IRS 1040
Foreign tax return, IRS 1040NR, or IRS 1040NR-EZ
Tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or Palau
Records of your untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans noneducation benefits, for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student
Information on cash; savings and checking account balances; investments, including stocks and bonds and real estate (but not including the home in which you live); and business and farm assets for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student.
You will also need to be able to electronically sign your application with a FSA ID. You and your parent will need an FSA ID. Go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id to create or manage your ID.

Hello, parents. Just a quick reminder: 2023 European travel meeting tonight! Paris is one of the 4 main destinations (they're hosting the 2024 Olympics, which is why we can't go there in mid-to-late July in 2024). If you are planning to attend the meeting, please RSVP here: https://bit.ly/3TbSPVd. I might need to change the meeting location to the new Unit Office building (previously Living Stones Church) as I have a fairly large crowd already signed up, so please please RSVP if you're coming. Also, a clarification from last week: the link here is to RSVP for the meeting, not to sign up for the trip. THAT link will be provided AT the meeting.
Hope to see you there!
Mr. Cress
