Student Data Privacy Information

Litchfield CUSD #12 takes our student's data information seriously. We are committed to protecting the information security of LCUSD #12 students in accordance with the latest version of the SOPPA. Effective July 1, 2021, school districts will be required by the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) to provide additional guarantees that student data is protected when collected by educational technology companies, and that data is used for beneficial purposes only (105 ILCS 85).

What is SOPPA?

The Student Online Personal Protection Act, or SOPPA, is the data privacy law that regulates student data collection and use by schools, the Illinois State Board of Education, and education technology (EdTech) vendors.

Litchfield CUSD #12 leverages the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC), which is an unique collaborative of schools, districts, regional, territories and state agencies, policy makers, trade organizations and marketplace providers addressing real-world, adaptable, and implementable solutions to growing data privacy concerns.   • Parents may request for copies (Electronic and Paper) of student's covered information.

  • Parents will have the rights to request corrections to factual inaccuracies contained in the student's covered information.

  • Parents can request for deletion of a student's covered information maintained by the "operator".

    • Governs information in a student’s education record, restricting access and use of student information.

    • Restricts the collection of personal information from children under 13 by companies operating websites, games, mobile applications, and digital services that are directed to children or that collect personal information from individuals known to be children.
